Amblycera vs Ischnocera Lice: Key Differences in Veterinary Parasitology
Amblycera and Ischnocera are two major groups of chewing lice that parasitize birds and mammals. They can be differentiated based on important morphological and behavioral characteristics, including the structure and position of the antennae, type of mandibles, presence of maxillary palps, thoracic segmentation, activity, and behavior after host death.
Amblyceran and ischnoceran lice are both parasites of birds and mammals. The following are the major differences between them:
