Posterior mesenteric artery is a visceral unpaired artery. It arises from the ventral face of the aorta near its termination behind the origin of the spermatic arteries.
It is related to the posterior mesenteric ganglion and the plexus encloses the vessel.
It divides in to an anterior short colic branch to supply the terminal part of the colon and a posterior longer anterior haemorrhoidal branch to supply the rectum.
