Coccidiosis in Pigs

Coccidiosis in Pigs is caused by Isospora suis and Eimeria debliecki. Young piglets at 2 weeks of age are highly affected.

Source of Infection

  • Oocyst produced from periparturient sow.

Transmission

  • Coprophagia

Clinical signs

  • Severe enteritis, diarrhoea is biphasic due to reinvasion from tissue.

Treatment

  • Amprolium in feed.

Prevention

  • Administration of amprolium one week prior to farrowing  to 3 weeks post farrowing.
