Myocardial Stimulants

before going through myocardial stimulants, have a look of congestive heart failure-

Congestive Heart Failure

Heart failure is a global term for the physiological state in which cardiac output is insufficient in meeting the needs of the body and lungs. Often termed “congestive heart failure” or CHF, this is most commonly caused when cardiac output is low and the body becomes congested with fluid.

Common causes of heart failure include-
  1. Myocardial infarction
  2. Ischemic heart disease
  3. Hypertension
  4. Valvular heart disease
  5. Cardiomyopathy
  6. Severe anemia
  7. Gram negative septicemia
  8. Beriberi (vitamin B1/thiamine deficiency)
  9. Thyrotoxicosis
  10. Arteriovenous fistulae
  11. Arteriovenous malformations

Myocardial Stimulants

In Congestive heart failure / CHF, these Myocardial stimulant drugs are used ( these discussed in later part of vetscraft articles)

  1. Cardiac glycosides / Digitalis
  2. Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors
    • Methyl Xanthine
    • Bipyridine derivatives
    • Pyridazone derivatives
  3. Beta adrenoceptor agonists and Miscellaneous
